TITLE: New Business
Completion of this work will satisfy the following learning outcomes from module BSM508:
LO1 Justify a viable business idea.
LO2 Critically analyse the main components of a business and how they inter-relate.
LO3 Demonstrate effective small business planning and performance.
LO4 Critically evaluate the potential issues arising that may impact the success of small business management through entrepreneurship.
Task 1: Proposal Presentation Paper (Individual)
Create a viable business idea, identifying its legal entity. Justify your choice of business through clear research on the sector and potential markets. Consider and outline within your proposal the impact and influence of external factors on your new business idea. LO1
Within your proposal you should consider your business strategy, operations, marketing and finance and critically analyse the main components of your business and how they inter-relate. LO2
Other relevant assessment information:
You will also need to incorporate research relevant to your business proposal and use a variety of sources including 2 books, 2 statistical/numerical sources and 1 journal. You must include a reference list and bibliography. Your presentation should have a maximum of 10 slides with notes of 1,000 words (+/- 10%) should be submitted online, through Turnitin.
This task will meet learning outcomes LO1 & L02 for this module and has a 30% weighting

TASK 2: Business Plan, (Individual)
You will present your business plan to potential investors. The investors will look at the viability of your business and the supporting information presented. You should demonstrate effective small business planning and provide justified reasoning and evidence/data to support the performance and viability of your business proposal. (LO3) The investors will evaluate potential issues that may impact on the success of your business enterprise. (LO4)
Other relevant assessment information:
You will need to include and reference academic sources including at least 2 books, 2 statistical/numerical sources and 2 journals that provide supporting evidence for any assertions that you make. You will also need to incorporate research relevant to your business plan. Your business plan, presentation and any supporting notes should be submitted online, through Turnitin, 2,500 words (+/- 10%)

Viability should be supported well with research justified by data/information based on the sector, target market and competition. Internal and external factors should be explored, and their impact considered through a SWOT or PESTLE. Your presentation should demonstrate clear thinking and constructive critical analysis. Good spelling and grammar should be evident throughout your presentation.||25 5|
|Business Plan [70%] LO3&4.||Business plan to include an executive summary, business description, objectives, market information, operational plan, strategy for growth / development and financial information. Evidence will be required to justify the business plan using both contextual and theoretical sources. The legal status of your business and an analysis of competitors should be included linked to investment potential and risk. Your plan must demonstrate a viable business clearly supported by financial analysis and include: a cash flow forecast demonstrating breakeven, capital investments, costings, expenditure, projected sales and profits over a 3-year period. It must include a detailed evaluation looking at success factors and consideration of issues that could impact on the start-up, growth and development of your business plan. Sales pitch of business concept is delivered in a professional manner. Business plan and information presented should have good spelling and grammar in addition to clarity of writing. Excellent knowledge and commercial awareness of the business proposal and how it is positioned against its competitors. Good use of academic business sources as detailed in the task and Harvard referencing throughout.||5 10 40 10 5|
