3. Useful peer-reviewed articles
For this section, you will need to have identified and read SIX peer-reviewed articles.
At least FOUR must come from scholarly journals on ABI Inform/(Proquest) or other authoritative databases from the BNU Library e.g. marketers might use World Advertising Research Center).
The remaining TWO can be taken from newspaper databases or authoritative reports. All sources should have been published in the last five years.
Discuss one theory, key idea or finding from each article/source which you think will be helpful for your literature review and explain why that theory, key idea or finding is particularly relevant to your investigation. What you are aiming to evaluate here is the contribution that others have made to your subject area and how their research could help to enlighten – and drive forward – your own.
(Suggested word count: 100 words per article = 600 words)
4. Proposed primary research
How do you intend to obtain your primary data and why do you consider that this method or methods is/are likely to be the most appropriate? Who will be in your sample? (In this section we are looking for credible plans, not simply wishful ideas!)
This section should;
- critically evaluate whether quantitative, qualitative or mixed (joint) techniques are appropriate for investigating your topic area, and why
- support your arguments with appropriate texts/sources on Research Methods and/or how other similar studies, such as those from your peer-reviewed articles, have been conducted.
- comment on why you consider that your proposal is ‘do-able’ e.g. do you have established contacts or friends who can introduce you to potential interview respondents, who is in your network and who might those respondents be? For surveys, you need to be clear about how you will maximise the response rate. (‘Convenience samples’ e.g. getting your friends to complete a survey using a web link from your Facebook page – are rarely accepted).
- offer a short ‘Plan B’ e.g. if your suggested method(s) do not work out, what is your backup plan?
