Assignment task
Choose an organisation you wish to analyse. This can be an organisation in the private sector (e.g. Amazon, Deliveroo, Bupa, AXA Health, etc), public sector (e.g. the NHS, the BBC, the Armed Forces, etc), or ‘third sector’ (e.g. Oxfam, Cancer Research UK, etc), as you prefer.
Write a report of 2500 words (+/–10%) in which, with reference to your chosen organisation, you identify contemporary social structures and organisational arrangements relevant to work and employment and analyse the ways in which these shape (and are shaped by) the lives and experiences of working people, including their economic welfare and overall well-being.
Your analysis should include (but need not be limited to) discussion of:
- the type of organisation (statutory/non-statutory), its goal(s), its stakeholders, and other relevant arrangements (e.g. organisational structure, etc);
- values and ethical practice within the organisation;
- relevant public policy and legislation;
- at least one other relevant social factor – e.g. the development of technology, globalisation, immigration and demographic change, social reproduction and unpaid work, social identities (such as ethnicity, gender and sexuality), or another issue discussed on the module or in relevant literature.
Use relevant concepts and theories to inform your analysis, and relevant empirical evidence to support the claims you make. Though you should pay particular attention to your chosen organisation, you can make reference to other similar (or, indeed, contrasting) organisations or more general trends in order to develop key points.
You should also include a brief introduction identifying the organisation you have chosen to focus on and providing some context for the analysis that will follow, and a conclusion reflecting on the significance of key points you have made.

This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the following module learning outcomes:
LO 1 | Demonstrate a critical understanding of ethics and values relating to organisations. |
LO 2 | Demonstrate a critical awareness of sociological and policy frameworks relevant to organisations. |
LO 3 | Demonstrate a critical awareness of structural issues and legislative framework that impact on the workings of organisations. |
