The main aim of the unit is to identify the influence of culture, politics and power in the behavior of the organization. As we know, organizational behavior is the study of behavior of individuals in a group or a team towards the organization the need for analyzing organizational behavior is extremely important. It will also give an insight about the behavior of the individuals, teams and organizations. This will also give an understanding of how a team or team leader help in contributing towards the goals of the organization. The key influences that make people do what they do have been identified.

LO1 Analyze the influence of culture, politics and power on the behavior of others in an organizational context
Culture refers to the norms, beliefs and values followed by the members of an organization. There can be four classifications of culture based on power, role, task and person. The different models and theories for identifying culture are Hofstede’s dimension, Principles of Network and systems theory and organizational psychology. The influence of power and politics is essential in understanding the behavior. The relationships of power dynamics through hierarchical structures and decision making can enable understanding of individual and group relationships.
LO2 Evaluate how to motivate individuals and teams to achieve a goal
Motivation is the ability of individuals to do something that would be beneficial for the organization and the individuals as well. Extrinsic motivation comes from external sources such as rewards and remuneration. Intrinsic motivation comes from internal factors which in self inflicted such as admiring role models, need to perform better. There are two types of motivational theories content and process theories. Understanding emotional intelligence by empathizing with other members of an organization and understanding the relationship between task and relationship leadership is essential for meeting organizational goals.
LO3 Demonstrate an understanding of how to cooperate effectively with others
It is important to understand how a team performs such as functional, problem solving and project teams. Networking can help in the development of virtual teams. The different models through which team development can be identified are Tuckman’s team development and Belbin’s typology in managing and developing effective teams. The soft and hard communication, cooperation and benefits of the team would enable reduction of conflict resolution.
LO4 Apply concepts and philosophies of organizational behavior to a given business situation
The path goal leadership style exclaims how team performance can be improved through the application of different steps. The barriers to effective behavior such as situational resistance have to be reduced. Organizational change is necessary and resistance has to be stopped through implementation of a proper strategic decision making process. The social capital theory and contingency theory are the philosophical concepts that would help in understanding the behavior and fulfilling the goals by making appropriate changes.
