Aim of Unit 17 Work-based Experience
This unit provides the learners with a scope of learning in-depth the context of work-based by planning, observing and evaluating the work experiences. This further provides an insight into the achievement of the learners by carrying out practical activities at workplaces. This enhances the understanding of the learners with a formal approach to work-based activities that includes planning, implementation and benefits of the activities performed to the learner and business. This unit also provides information regarding the requirements of a workplace and opportunities to perform the activities at the workplace. By evaluation and reflection of self-work experience, the learners would be benefitted.

LO1 Be able to negotiate industry experience
In this section, a suitable placement for establishing business would be chosen on the basis of understanding of the existing working environment. This also deals with different negotiation techniques so as to come up with a mutual decision regarding the establishment of the business. The learners would understand the nature of duties to be carried out. Additionally, they would gain knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the supervisor and would acquire an understanding of the required proficiency for new tasks. The learners would also acquire knowledge of different business constraints that are to be considered while carrying out business.
LO2 Understand the specific requirements of the placement
This section would help the learners to acquire an understanding of the requirements for the placement. This section would provide the learners with a brief idea regarding the ways the tasks are to be carried out. They would also acquire an understanding of prioritising works as per requirement and plan for further work. This would also provide them with an idea of the ways in which an organisation could earn benefits.
LO3 Be able to undertake work experience as identified
In this section, the learners would acquire an idea of the ways for carrying out activities within an organisation that includes performing tasks as per legislation and codes of practice. They would also learn the importance of recording activities in an appropriate manner that consists of maintaining a performance logbook, portfolio, databases, diary, spreadsheets and list of resources. As per the review of initial activities, they also learn the way in which the existing plan is revised.
LO4 Be able to monitor and evaluate own performance and learning
This section gives an insight into the monitoring and evaluation of self-performance on the basis of which the learners would be able to enhance their performances. This also provides them with an understanding of the importance of acquiring knowledge during work and the ways they could enhance their performance.
