Aim of Unit 18 Human Resource Management for Service Industries
The aim of this unit is to make the learners understand the roles and responsibilities of human resource management, building employee relations and training and development within an industry. This shed light on the key elements of human resource management and provides learners with an opportunity to analyse employment laws and the ways it affects the industry. In addition to this, the learners would acquire an idea regarding the process of selection and recruitment that would further help them to develop their skills for effective administering this into human resource functions. An understanding of training and developmental activities is also enclosed in this unit.

LO1 Understand human resource management
In this section, the learners acquire knowledge about the concept of human resource management and their roles and responsibilities. For instance, forecasting and planning, hiring process, monitoring employee’s performances, maintaining employment contracts, monitoring budget, provide training and developing employee relationship. This also provides depth knowledge of the planning of human resource management.
LO2 Understand the effect of employee relations and employment law on service industries businesses
This section helps the learners to identify the effects of employee relations and employment laws on industries. This section also incorporates an understanding of the ways in which different nature of employee relation such as collective bargaining, culture, negotiation affects the industry operations. Additionally, the learners gains knowledge of the impact of employee participation, conflict management and empowerment on the industry. Apart from this, employment laws such as the Employee Rights Act, Employee Relation Act would be elaborated in this section.
LO3 Understand the recruitment and selection process
This section would provide an idea regarding the selection and recruitment process in human resource management. This would further focus on the factors that affect the recruitment procedure some of them are an organisational need, labour market, job design, job description, methods of recruitment advertisements. Moreover, the learners would also acquire an idea regarding the aspects that are to be considered during selection. They would also understand the barriers that could affect the selection procedure.
LO4 Understand training and development in service industries businesses
In this section, the learners would be able to understand the importance of training and development session for the employees. They would also be able to differentiate between the type of training and developmental activities required by the employees. An understanding of the benefit of appraisals for improved performances as per the targets would also be enclosed in this section. Moreover, this section would also provide an idea of the attitudes and barriers to training. Further, this section would also provide information regarding the evaluation training on the basis of accomplishment of the business objective.
