Aim of Unit 22 Developing Counseling Skills for Health and Social Care
This unit would deal with knowing and developing the skills in the area of counseling. It would focus on how the process of counseling is done. The section would visit some of theoretical dimensions of the action of counseling. It would also identify the ethical links the counseling has in the social care and healthcare. It would promote the understanding through playing of roles, and feedback used to improve oneself among others. Observations by the people who are tutoring would also be used. It would enable to improve the skills in the field of healthcare and social care related to counseling.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit a learner will:
- Understand how theoretical perspectives apply to counseling work in health and social care
- Understand how boundaries and ethical codes are applied in counseling work in health and social care
- Understand the role of counseling interactions in health and social care services
- Be able to demonstrate appropriate skills in a simulated counselling interaction.
LO1 Understand how theoretical perspectives apply to counseling work in health and social care
The theoretical perspective of the counseling work has been addressed in this part of the unit and it has been presented along with theoretical perspectives. The theories which have been addressed in this part for helping learners are psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and humanistic. Different theories have been identified by different authors. The contribution of authors and findings of them has been addressed. Personality theory and Rogers’s theory are addressed. All the identified theories are excellent in addressing issue.
LO2 Understand how boundaries and ethical codes are applied to counseling work in health and social care
This part mainly revolves around ascertainment of ethical codes and practices. Therefore, the factors which have been addressed in this part are ways of establishing Counseling relationship, Ethical guidelines, Legal factors and Role of supervision. Counseling helps to mitigate boundaries which occur in political relationship. The guidelines have been followed from British Association for Counseling and Psychotherapy Code of Ethics. Anti-discriminatory practice is an important part of asserting legal factors. Role of supervision is important in this regard.
LO3 Understand the role of counseling interactions in health and social care services
The role of counseling interaction has been addressed in this part of the unit. Availability, referral and funding are three important scopes. Achievements of maximum benefit have been also addressed in this part of the unit. Enhanced health and wellbeing is the main intention of conducting this counseling because this is helpful in ascertaining potential benefit. The factors also identified which has high impact upon make the counseling interaction effective.
LO4 be able to demonstrate appropriate skills in a simulated counseling interaction
Satisfactory demonstration of skills helps to address boundaries and confidentiality. This part also helps to address the disclosure opportunity. The role of the councillor has been addressed in this part. The techniques have also been addressed and each step of skill setting has also been addressed. Skill development strategy is also included in this. Self evaluation must be included which helps to address main goal. The findings from the whole study has been concluded in the end.
