Aim of Unit 25: Influences on Health and Social Care Organizations
The leadership plays an important role within any organization. Theoretical ideas which describe the leadership would be covered in this unit. The points of view in the theory of management would be covered. Application of ideas from the learners’ experience would also be incorporated in the given context of healthcare and social care. Effectiveness at the personal and the level of organization would be discussed in the given situation. The environment which is external to the organization in the healthcare and social domain has many factors which affect the leadership. These factors would also be discussed in this unit.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit a learner will:
- Understand the relationship between the external environment and health and social care organizations
- Understand the impact of organizational structure and culture on health and social care service delivery
- Understand the role of leadership in health and social care organizations.
LO1 Understand the relationship between the external environment and health and social care organizations
The factors which are external to the healthcare and social care sectors would be discussed in this section. It would cover factors like the framework of legislation, pressures from the commercial angles, different stakeholders, and issue of demography among others. The section would also specifically discuss the impacts the factors would have on the services, responsibilities, structure of the organization. The impacts of the factors on functions in organization would also be covered. It would also discuss the nature of the response of the organization to the impacts in different forms. The forms would include record keeping, maintenance of different statistics and records of accountability.
LO2 Understand the impact of organizational structure and culture on health and social care service delivery
Different factors within an organization in the given context affect the delivery of services. Factors discussed would be from the perspective of organizations which are private, not for profit, public among others. The aspects of the organizational culture which would be covered are the power structure, task culture, norms among others. The impacts of the organization would also be covered from the perspective of individual standpoint using some theoretical approaches like that of McClelland among others. Effects of behavior of group would also be covered using framework like the roles, socialization, conformity, thinking in groups. Structure of organizational would also be discussed in this section as it also has its own impacts on the work in this context.
LO3 Understand the role of leadership in health and social care organizations.
The leadership has an undeniable role to play in the given domain. This section would discuss the idea of leadership from the views of affectivity and the concepts. The effectiveness angle would include the attainment of goals, use of the resources which are scarce among others. It would also touch upon the importance of the needs of fulfilling the demands of the people who are using the services in our context. The concept part would deal with the ideas like the leadership of transformational type, power of the leadership, values, vision, amount of self-confidence, authority in the leadership. This section would also discuss how the different types of leadership would bring in the different forms of effectiveness.
