Aim of Unit 26 Facilitating Change in Health and Social Care

The social care and healthcare are generally impacted by different factors which are outside the organization. Unit 26 Facilitating Change in Health and Social Care would discuss the different factors which affect the organization in our context. The factors discussed would be of various types like the demographic, technological, cultural factors among others. This unit would deal with the effects the factors would have on the organization in the healthcare and social care. The organization manages the change depending upon its various internal factors which guide the response to the change.  This unit would cover the management of change by the organization in the presence of factors of external origin using these factors.

      Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit a learner will:

  1. Understand the factors that drive change in health and social care services
  2. Be able to evaluate recent changes in health and social care services
  3. Understand the principles of change management.

LO1 Understand the factors that drive change in health and social care services

The various factors which affect change in an organization would be covered in this section. The factors would include from different categories like the technological, demographic and political. The factors of the technological type which affect change in the organization in the sector of social care and healthcare include record keeping through electronic means, technology which assists in the processes among others. The factors of legal and political type include the different types of legislations and the structures like the NHS. Factors of demographic type under this section include the proportion of population which is ageing, ethnic categories, and the different lifestyle associated factors.

LO2 Be able to evaluate recent changes in health and social care services

This section would cover the examination of the changes in the social care and healthcare in recent times. It would help in understanding the nature of the impact on the services delivered in this domain. It would examine the impact on the services at the frontline in the healthcare and social care. The effect on the users of the services of the sector would be covered in this section. It would also draw on some of the recent changes in the social care and healthcare and their impacts and effects on the services themselves apart from the users of the services.

LO3 Understand the principles of change management

This section of the unit would help with the understanding of the management of change in the organizations under the healthcare and social care. This section would explain the idea in three parts. The first part would describe the principles and concepts of the management of change. It would cover ideas like that of the Kotter’s, Leavitt’s, anxiety and fear among others. Second part would deal with the types of planning of the change. It would cover methods like the communication, consultation, use of the social systems which are informal. Third part would describe the monitoring methods of change like efficiency, and surveys among others.

LO3 Understand the principles of change management. explain the key principles of change management explain how changes in health and social care are planned assess how to monitor recent changes in health and social care services.
