Aim of Unit 34 Business Systems
This section aims to introduce the theoretical base of business systems and the practical application of the same. A broader understanding of the support provided by business systems in the attainment of organisational goals would be discussed here. The management of organisational performance and utilisation of Internal Communication Technology would also be explored here.
After successfully completing this section, the students would develop skills needed for the practical application of business systems in order to become an efficient manager. The students would further be able to provide their contribution to the designing of a business system within their workplace.
By the end of this unit a student will be able to:
- Evaluate the contribution of business systems to organisational performance.
- Analyse the internal and external factors which have an impact on systems and processes.
- Apply a range of analytical tools and techniques to business systems.
- Recommend improvements in organisational processes and systems.
LO1 Evaluate the contribution of business systems to organisational performance
Identification of the differences between business processes and business systems and the role played by business systems in performing complex functions of an organisation would be explained here. The process by which a business system either provides restrictions or helps in the promotion of sustainable performance within an organisation would be explained.
The perceptions of systems, utilisation of integrated business systems, approaches used for systems thinking would further be discussed in this unit.
LO2 Analyse the internal and external factors which have an impact on systems and processes
The implementation of theory of constraints along with an analysis of internal and external factors would be discussed here. The impact that the same has on internal factors such as in the interoperability levels, legal restriction s as well as its impact on employee motivation and organisational structure would be discussed here. External analysis of environment and their implications would be discussed here further.
LO3 Apply a range of analytical tools and techniques to business systems
The appropriate utilisation of analytical tools in the selection of the most suitable business system would be explained here. Analysis of systems, process mapping along with reverse engineering would be discussed here. This would be followed by an explanation of CATWOE analysis as well as stakeholder analysis.
LO4 Recommend improvements in organisational processes and systems
An analysis of the implementation, designing along with monitoring of changes to a business system with respect to the process design and analysis and management of data would be discussed here. This would be followed by an understanding of the appropriate methods and techniques of monitoring, delivery and control of systems. An understanding of systems development techniques would further be discussed here.
