This unit sheds light on the learner’s personal development in terms of the carrier in hospitality industry. It focuses on the principles and practices of management behavioural. This unit is to guide the learner to implement the learning’s for examining the potential in oneself as a potential manager in the future. By using the knowledge that has been developed, the learner would be able to work efficiently in the future and can actively portray the role of a potential manager in the future. This unit will further determine how the learner would imply the learning achieved in this unit for the career in the hospitality industry in the future.

Learning outcomes

LO1 Understand principles and practices of management behaviour

The management behaviour comprises of management theory and styles. Management theory and styles focuses on the assumptions and drawbacks, the influence of informal groups, hierarchy of needs and leading authorities. For developing as manger an individual must attain leadership characteristics and have better communication skills. The organizational change is an important aspect of management behaviour as it determines the type of change like that of economic, legislative and demographic.

LO2 Be able to review own potential as a prospective manager

In order to come out as a prospective manager, self knowledge and appraisal is extremely important. A learner must attain certain skills like management skills, leadership qualities, and personal skills and must be expert in organizing and planning. The learner must be aware about one’s own potential, aims and targets for the future. One should indulge on various development skills and must acquire knowledge about various management and leadership techniques.

LO3 Be able to show managerial skills within a business and services context

Future managers must be able to show managerial skills within a business and services context. The roles that a learner must acquire are leadership, motivating the staff and building the team. Setting goals and objectives would help the learner gain confidence and be responsible. One should be informed about customer service, planning and managing, efficient working relationship and coordinate with the co-workers and other stakeholders.

LO4 Be able to create a career development plan for employment within a business and services context

A learner should create a career development plan in order to achieve the goal of becoming a manager in the hospitality industry. To achieve the desired career goals, one must have managerial skills like better communication, personal skills like better behaviour and attitude. For career development an individual must first have a personal development as a person. An individual present performance determines the future performance; hence a learner must possess all these qualities to acquire the future goal in order to sustain in the hospitality industry in the future.
